# BUILD_SETTING_MISSING

**What it means.** A setting the app reads while it is being built is not set, so the built app has it empty.

**What to do.** Set it with `npx uarpie -e NAME=value`, using the setting's name and its real value. That deploys again and rebuilds the app with the value in it. Changing it later also needs a rebuild; the platform does that by itself when the setting is changed in the dashboard.

- HTTP status: 200
- Retryable after applying the fix: yes

Every failure from the CLI or an MCP tool has this shape:

```json
{
  "ok": false,
  "code": "BUILD_SETTING_MISSING",
  "message": "A setting the app reads while it is being built is not set, so the built app has it empty.",
  "fix": "Set it with `npx uarpie -e NAME=value`, using the setting's name and its real value. That deploys again and rebuilds the app with the value in it. Changing it later also needs a rebuild; the platform does that by itself when the setting is changed in the dashboard.",
  "file": "<where to edit, when known>",
  "retryable": true,
  "docs": "https://docs.uarpie.app/errors/BUILD_SETTING_MISSING"
}
```

Apply `fix` (edit `file` when it is given), then run the same command again.
